tweakers.net has tested again the performance of PostgreSQL 8.2-dev and Mysql 4.1.20 and Mysql 5.0.20a. Results are nice and shown here.

Best thing: the collapses for requests per seconds if Mysql has a concurrency greater than 7. Oh, and by the way, they don't state the table type for Mysql so we don't know, if it is the fast and forgetfully MyIsam or the better but slower InnoDB type.

Last year, tweakers.net did some performance tests with MySQL and PostgreSQL and they found out that MySQL did not scale very well with many concurrent connections.Now Kris Kennaway did some tests on his own and posted the results to the FreeBSD perform Comments ()

Tja vertraue keiner Statistik die du nicht selbst gefälscht hast. Man kann sicherlich auf Fälle konstruieren in denen es genau anders herum ist. Es ist z.B. nicht gesagt wie die Beiden DB konfiguriert wurden oder ob da optimiert wurde. Das ist jetzt vielleicht 'out of the box' performance aber das sagt nichts darüber falls man an den 'richtigen Schrauben' dreht.^^

Ja ja, das gilt ja für jede Statistik ;-) Hier: http://tweakers.net/reviews/646/9 ist der Test beschrieben. Die Anwendung ist eine Webanwendung, die auf Mysql 4 läuft. Für die PostgreSQL Datenbank wurden einige Kleinigkeiten in der DB Struktur angepasst, letztendlich bleiben die Anfragen jedoch für Mysql geschrieben. In dem Zusammenhang sind dann auch die Ergebnisse zu sehen. Interessant wäre noch, wieviel Performance mit Anpassungen in Richtung PostgreSQL herauszuholen wäre, obwohl PG jetzt schon mehr Anfragen bearbeitet und dabei vor allem auch nicht einbricht.
