For the "PostgreSQL Person of the Week" interviews I'm using Hugo as static blogging engine. Part of every interview is the list of tags, which links this interview to other similar interviews. However until recently no one really knew if a tag is popular or just used in this interview. I wanted to change this, and add the tag count behind every tag.
The way I use Hugo I have the previews also online, and I don't want to count any interviews which are not published (still drafted) when counting entries for a tag.
Tags in Hugo are taxonomies, which is a user-defined grouping of content.

PGConf.de 2015 is the sequel of the highly successful German-speaking PostgreSQL Conferences 2011 and 2013. Due to space limitations in the old location, we are moving to Hamburg. The conference takes place on Friday, November 27th. We also add a day with trainings on the 26th.
Registration for the conference will be possible well in advance. Tickets must be purchased online. For sponsors, we have put together a package that includes among other things, a number of discounted ticket. More in the Call for Sponsors in a separate announcement.
Yesterday (Friday) we ran the German-speaking PostgreSQL Conference 2013. Once again (like 2011) it took place at the Rheinisches Industriemuseum in Oberhausen, followed today and tomorrow by the OpenRheinRuhr Open Source conference and exhibition. And like 2011 we had a "full house", this year we had to close the registration even earlier than last year. Unfortunately the museum has a limited amount of seats, which somewhat limits us here. In the end, we had 105 attendees.
We had 22 talks (including keynote) by 23 22 speakers, where 5 speakers are not from DACH (Germany, Austria, Switzerland). That is a great success too.
I think it's almost time to start thinking about the 2014 edition of pgconf.de.
"Chemnitz Linux Days" is one of the main Open Source and Linux conferences in Germany, for the 15th consecutive year now. And personally it's one of my favourite conferences.
Based on experience from the past two years I decided not to have a booth, but nevertheless submitted two talks. One was accepted: "Replication with PostgreSQL" (slides and script here). On the laptop keyboard&mouse: Andreas Kretschmer. On the microphone: me. It was the first talk in the morning, but the room was full with visitors. We got nice feedback about the talk as well and had to continue discussions outside of the room, when the next talk started.

The German-Speaking PostgreSQL Conference 2011 is over!
It was a very good event and the response was much greater than expected. Thanks to all who have come to Oberhausen - despite the start of the carnival at the same day. Honestly, I had 50 visitors set as the limit to declare the event a success for myself. Two days before the conference we had to close the registry because the planned capacity at that time were already almost fully utilized. At this time, we had almost 90 registrations - including walk-ins we certainly topped the 100.
The German-Speaking PostgreSQL Conference takes place on November 11th in Oberhausen, Germany. Last chance for your registration!
We are happy to announce Astrid Emde as Keynote Speaker, she will talk about the PostGIS project, one of the main influences to PostgreSQL.

Nach dem die FrOSCon zu Ende war, blieb noch das Problem des Abendessens. Schließlich stand für die meisten aus dem PostgreSQL Team noch eine längere Heimreise an. Das Problem wurde wie üblich dadurch gelöst, das ein Restaurant in der Nähe ausgesucht wurde.
Diesmal fiel die Wahl auf die Taverne Sirtaki in Siegburg - zufälligerweise nur ein paar Häuser weiter von dem Steakhaus, das wir am Abend zuvor besucht hatten. Eine Reservierung war telefonisch auch schnell erledigt, so das wir zu sechst gegen 19 Uhr hungrig dort ankamen.
Die erste Ernüchterung folgte, als die Kellnerin meinte, das gerade kein Gyrosspieß mehr im Grill wäre - es würde ca. 15 Minuten dauern. Die zweite Ernüchterung folgte, als wir nach ca. einer Stunde so langsam sämtliche Vorspeisen verzehrt hatten und immer noch auf das eigentliche Essen warten mussten. Die Personen am Nachbartisch kamen einige Zeit nach uns an, hatten ihr Gyros jedoch einige Zeit vor uns.
Alles in allem war das Essen sehr trocken, Soßen oder ähnliches wurde nicht serviert und nachträglich bestellen würde noch länger dauern.
Zu allem Überfluß kamen wir dann gegen 21 Uhr aus dem Restaurant - viel später als eigentlich vorgesehen. In diesem kleinen Kaff dieser kleinen Stadt Siegburg machen dann auch die Eis-Cafes schon um diese Zeit zu, so das ich ohne vernünftigen Nachtisch heim fahren musste.
Die FrOSCon am letzten Wochenende ist eine sehr gut besuchte, wenn auch völlig irrelevante Veranstaltung.
Das PostgreSQL Team hat es sich zur Tradition gemacht, das Abendessen außerhalb einzunehmen, um in Ruhe diskutieren zu können. Später sind wir dann wieder auf der Party.
Dieses Jahr haben wir am Samstag abend das Steakhaus "Zum Heißen Stein" in Siegburg besucht.
Die Anleitung auf der Webseite und der Speisekarte war zuerst etwas ungewöhnlich: "Sie braten sich Ihr Steak selbst". Demzufolge bekam man dann sein Essen (zumindest das Fleisch) auch roh vorgesetzt, dazu gab es einen quadratischen, sehr heißen Stein. Man konnte sich sein Essen dann in passende Scheiben zurechtschneiden und selbst nach Wunsch anbraten.
Die Zutaten waren dann alle schon fertig zubereitet und der genussvollen Nahrungsaufnahme stand nichts mehr im Weg.

Wie in den letzten Jahren auch hat PostgreSQL wieder einen sehr angenehmen Auftritt auf der FrOSCon 2011 gehabt.
Am Samstag hatten wir einen Devroom, der voll mit guten Vorträgen war. Das Feedback für den Devroom ist - soweit man das zu diesem frühen Zeitpunkt schon abschätzen kann - sehr gut.
Etwas Kritik gibt es an der Orga für die Organisation der Projekte. Wie auch im letzten Jahr wurden alle Projekte in die eine Hälfte des einen großen Saals gepackt. Auf der anderen Seite waren dann Tische und dort wurde warmes Essen verkauft. Dieses Gedränge und das gute Wetter haben dafür gesorgt, das die Temperaturen an den Ständen nicht erträglich waren - entsprechend war am Sonntag dort recht wenig los und die Besucher haben sich eher draußen aufgehalten.
Für nächstes Jahr wünsche ich mir hier ein komplett neues Konzept vom Veranstalter, andernfalls macht es keinen Sinn, unnötig personelle und materielle Ressourcen für einen nicht besuchten Stand aufzuwenden. Mit kleineren Korrekturen ist es hier nicht mehr getan, dafür ist die FrOSCon mittlerweile zu groß geworden und die Anzahl der Projekte wächst ständig an.
Dafür war das Social Event am Abend wieder sehr gut organisiert und besucht. Positiv zu erwähnen ist außerdem, das man schneller seine Getränke bekam.
Dann mal schauen, was die Orga da nächstes Jahr geplant hat.

As usual, PostgreSQL has a devroom and we will host a number of talks, most of them in German, but also one in English.

Like in the last years, the German-Speaking PostgreSQL User Group again has a Devroom at the FrOSCon 2011, taking place on August 20/21in St. Augustin, Germany.
Now we are looking for all kind of PostgreSQL related talks. All slots are 45 minutes.

Die Deutschsprachige PostgreSQL Anwendergruppe hat auf der 6. FrOSCon in St. Augustin am 20./21. August einen Devroom.
Dort werden wir wie auch in den letzten Jahren eine Reihe Vorträge zum Thema PostgreSQL organisieren. Dafür suchen wir nun Beiträge.
Jeder Vortrag wird 45 Minuten dauern und kann jedes beliebige für PostgreSQL relevante Thema beinhalten. Einige Vorschläge für Themenbereiche:
Natürlich werden Einreichungen aus anderen, PostgreSQL relevanten Bereichen ebenfalls akzeptiert.
Alle Vorträge müssen bis zum 22. Juli 2011 an froscon@pgug.de eingereicht sein.
Wir werden ebenfalls einen PostgreSQL Stand auf der FrOSCon haben, dafür suchen wir noch fleißige Helfer.
