On Monday, April 27th, 2026, Gülçin organized the PostgreSQL April Meetup in Prague. Dataddo hosted the Meetup this time, and we had two speakers.

Opening and introduction

Gülçin opened the Meetup, and Petr from Dataddo gave a short introduction about the company.

There was excellent food, even before the Meetup started. That’s nice, at other meetups the food “appears” between talks.

The fridge also held a variety of beverages.

Artjoms Iškovs: Bringing Postgres to the data lake: Iceberg, Delta Lake, and how we made Postgres read to and write from them

Artjoms talked about the Postgres Analytics Accelerator (PGAA), an extension for Postgres which allows it to run queries on lakehouse formats (Iceberg as well as Delta Lake) in object storage, using a separate query engine (Apache DataFusion or Apache Spark). Combined with the EDB Postgres Distributed product, it can also replicate tables and their changes into these formats. Included in the presentation was a deep dive into the Iceberg format, talking about lesser-known features like equality deletes, position deletes and deletion vectors, and he also discussed how this integrates with EDB Postgres Distributed’s replication to turn Postgres into a hybrid transactional-analytical (HTAP) database.

Andreas Scherbaum: How we made WarehousePG Open Source (again): What happened to Greenplum Database?

Andreas (yes, that’s me) talked about WarehousePG, an Open Source fork of the Greenplum Database, which itself is a fork of PostgreSQL. The project was born after the upstream project was made closed source in 2024. My talk gave a quick overview of the history of both projects, spanning more than two decades, and also covered the reasons for creating a fork and all the stumbling stones which had to be passed to make the project Open Source again. Some of the challenges include CLAs (Contributor License Agreements) and the implications of the PostgreSQL and Apache licenses for the project.

Networking

After the talks, people stayed a bit longer for networking and discussions.

Thank you

The Meetup was hosted by Dataddo, thanks to Juraj Slota for the introduction, and organized by Gülçin Yıldırım Jelínek. Thank you!

Late posting

Why is this posting so late? It’s September, the Meetup was in April.

Well, we’ve been in Prague for a business meeting, and had a couple of days packed with meetings after the Meetup. I forgot to write this blog posting, and was recently reminded about it.
