This was my first time attending PGConf.India. Something I wanted to do for quite a while, heard good things about the conference. but never had a chance before. The conference is well attended, and very vibrant. Good presentations, a lot of questions about *WarehousePG* (the talk I gave) and about *PostgreSQL* in general.

On 5th of March, 2026, we had the PostgreSQL March Meetup in Berlin. Zalando hosted it again, and like last time it was four regular talks in two parallel tracks. The Meetup took place in the Hedwig-Wachenheim-Straße in Berlin, right around the corner from the Uber Arena and East Side Gallery. The event was co-sponsored by Zalando (venue, drinks) and AWS (pizza, snacks).

On August 8th and August 15th, the first two 'PostgreSQL Hacking Workshops' took place. Robert Haas previously asked on Discord for topics, and the highest vote was for 'PostgreSQL Optimizer Methodology'. The invited attendees are expected to watch the video before, and bring questions to the workshop.

I had the honor to present at PgConf.Russia 2016. It’s probably the biggest PostgreSQL conference in Europe (News report), even bigger than pgconf.eu. It shows that PostgreSQL, and Open Source in general, has a big and growing market share. Was the first time that I travelled to Russia, and as with almost every new country, it is incredible. Also it is nice to be not in charge for a conference, and to enjoy the time attending talks, discuss with others or get stuff done.

As promised earlier this year, Pivotal released the code for Greenplum Database into Open Source.
Greenplum Database is based on PostgreSQL (was forked from PG 8.2), and features a massive parallel processing system (MPP) to run SQL queries on very large data sets. The code base is licensed under the Apache 2.0 license, and available on GitHub. You can fork the project from there, or submit patches and new features.
